Sue’s Views

Scrolling through FB this morning ….. two posts stood out to me. One was about the earthquake and tsunami in Tonga. The other was a video of a man in the UK being arrested for preaching the gospel in the street. 

Just before Jesus died …..his disciples asked him what would be the signs of the last days. 

 ‘And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.’

He went on to say “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.’

I know many won’t bother to read this post. But if you have made it this far ….. surely you must see that we are in the end times right now. All the signs are there. God is delaying because it is not His will that any should perish but all would come to salvation. I urge you to heed the warning before it’s too late!

We were watching people ….. mainly adults ….. playing on this water park at St Heliers on Tuesday. I was thinking what a great idea it was and looked like a lot of fun. Little did we know that ….. that same night ….. a life guard was attacked while patrolling the one at Maraetai and a crowd of drunk party goers broke in. This has resulted in the park’s closure. Just another example of the lawlessness and disrespect in our nation. Romans 1:28-32 tells it like it is: 

‘Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.’

That’s quite a list ….. and I’m definitely in there too! That’s why I’m so thankful that God sent Jesus to pay the price for my penalty. He did it for you too! Don’t wait till God ‘gives you over’. Turn to Him now!

There’s something about this picture that puts things into perspective! I’ve been amazed lately by some of the stupidity of so called ‘experts’ who are trying to solve our world’s problems. I feel they are making it all up as they go along ….. and burying themselves in the holes they are digging! Don’t get me wrong ….. I value education ….. but when we leave God out of the picture ….. we become fools! We don’t need expensive space exploration to tell us how the world began ….. and we don’t need scientists to tell us what’s going to happen in the future. Just read the Bible!

‘When I consider your heavens,

    the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars,

    which you have set in place,

what is mankind that you are mindful of them,

    human beings that you care for them?’ Psalm 8:3-4

Who needs a fancy restaurant when you can have fish n chips by the beach! The older I get ….. the simpler life becomes. Last night was my perfect date night. Dinner ….. alfresco ….. followed by a stroll along the promenade with my man of 45 years. You can’t get any better than that! Life can get so complicated. It really doesn’t need to.

Waiting is not one of my favourite pastimes! Once I get an idea in my head ….. I tend to want to execute it straight away. But I’ve learned over many years that it’s not a good idea to rush into things. Firstly ….. it may be a fleshly desire that started with me, not God. Secondly ….. I may not have all the necessary information to carry it through. Thirdly ….. it may not be the right timing. I wonder how much time and energy I’ve wasted trying to ‘make something happen’. When we do things in God’s strength and wisdom ….. it turns out so much better!

‘But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.’ Isaiah 40:31

Our children are a gift from God. They belong to Him first ….. and He cares for them even more than we do. We all started out as an innocent child ….. simple ….. trusting ….. adventurous. Children have no sense of danger. A parent’s role is to protect while at the same time helping them to learn how to live in a world that is full of opportunities. The enemy is out to harm our children in all sorts of ways. Apart from being vigilant ….. the best way to protect our kids is to pray for them. Obviously we can’t be watching them every second ….. but God is! They are the ‘apple of His eye’. It’s the most sensitive part ….. and if something touches it ….. you know about it!

The Bible is the most relevant and up to date book you will ever read! ‘How can that be?’ ….. you may ask …..when it was written so long ago. Even though every person who wrote the various books is long gone ….. the actual author is very much alive. Every word is inspired by God who has no beginning and no end. It starts before our universe was created ….. and it ends after this world will be no more. Even the Old Testament reads like today’s newspaper! But it doesn’t just report the current events ….. it gives us answers. Our reporters can only write facts they see or hear ….. and even then they are distorted and sensationalised. God has all knowledge ….. and all power! Make sure you get your information from a reliable source!

‘I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. Have you ever noticed how one negative thought leads to another ….. and then another ….. and so on until it becomes a saga? It becomes like a recording that plays in your mind ….. like a familiar song you can’t get out of your head. This happened to me just yesterday while I was doing my ironing! I found myself going down that well beaten track of negativity ….. and I asked God to ‘Please erase it from my mind!’ I felt Him say ‘Change tracks! Play another record! And play it until it becomes so familiar it takes the place of the old one!’ And so I put on a podcast that was full of truth and hope. And you know what? ….. It worked! With so much negativity around us we can easily slide down that slippery slope. But if ….. as soon as you hear the first note of that old song ….. you change tracks ….. you will soon be singing a different tune!
